Terraces of New York

If any city were to run for world capital, surely New York would be the most fitting candidate. A city like this always surprises anyone that visits, whether for business or pleasure. I fit myself into both categories, because it’s always a pleasure to work from here. Having just arrived at my hotel, I immediately adapt to the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. My calendar is packed and I can’t miss one minute.

#Advertising, #Design, #Fashion, #Jewellery… these are some of the tags of the day. I’m accompanied by Tina, a publicist for a multinational company, who’s waiting for me in the lobby to start crossing items off the agenda.

By 7pm, we mark our busy day as complete. Now it’s time to relax and establish a place to start the night. And to do this, where better than a rooftop to grab a cocktail and calm down the brain activity? We choose the terrace of the Gansevoort hotel, on Park Avenue South; a true design temple and the ideal place to plan the evening. It’s in a privileged location, just ten minutes from the Empire State Building. We can see its imposing outline from the pool, proudly towering over the New York skyline. It’s still light, but in this city the sun can’t penetrate the mass of buildings that fill it. The lighting of the terrace’s lanterns tells us that it’s time for dinner, and afterwards… we’ll see.

As tomorrow is for travelling back home we don’t want to stay out too long. So, we decide to head over to the legendary Fifth Avenue to dine at the Salon de Ning, located on the terrace of the Peninsula hotel, one of the most glamorous in the city and with a reputation for constantly surprising everyone that visits, who are none other than television stars and artists from 42nd Street. They tell me that Salon de Ning comes from a character from a story, Madame Ning, a distinguished celebrity in Shanghai’s high society, a passionate traveller and international hostess who welcomed guests to the salons of her elegant homes across the world, making her friends and guests feel at home in a warm and cosy setting.

We can see the city’s veins from the terrace, with the red streaks of car lights winding through them, a true symbol of life in the Big Apple. All that’s left is for Tina and I to toast the intense and enjoyable day over a fabulous Manhattan cocktail. The night and day of New York intertwine with Frank Sinatra music in the background.
